If you experience an orthodontic emergency, please call or text Hodges Orthodontics at 805-498-1006 as soon as possible. We will make an emergency appointment to resolve the problem and get your treatment back-on-track as soon as possible.
Below are some common orthodontic emergencies and instructions on what you can do until you can meet with Dr. Ryan Hodges.
Loose Brackets or Bands
If a bracket, band or wire becomes loose, contact us immediately. Your brackets may need to be refitted and your braces adjusted. If a bracket breaks off, save the part and bring it with you to the appointment if possible. Please call our office as soon as possible so that we can make an appointment for you.
Poking Wires or Wire Irritations
If the archwire of your braces is irritating your cheeks or gums, you can move it away from the irritated area with a cotton swab or eraser. You can temporarily relieve the irritation by covering it with a small piece of cotton or wax. Please call us to make an appointment so that we can resolve the issue and adjust the wire correctly.
Discomfort With Braces
During the first week after your braces are placed or you begin other orthodontic treatment, you may experience some soreness or discomfort. This is normal and should fade after a few days. You can manage this discomfort with mild pain relievers or warm washcloths. You may also experience some discomfort following adjustments to your braces or other appliances. If you experience severe pain or the discomfort does not fade after a few days, please contact our office.
If you have any questions or to set up an appointment with our orthodontist in Newbury Park or Moorpark, California, call or text us at 805-498-1006.
